Sergey and melia placed 4th overall, even behind the utterly boring stokkebroes. Everyone who cares about these stupid comps knew beforehand who would place first so i won’t bother to say. Yulia danced better w/ max but she and riccardo placed 2nd.
No surpise upsets here! Give Yulia & Riccardo more time to gel – but Max is the better dancer – I hope they find their rhythm. Good for Andrei & Elena in Samba! Can’t wait for the Standard on Friday! And can’t wait for your full impressions when you get back.
max is far inferior to riccardo. love max, but sorry. yulia will be a world champion with ricky. after that she and max can go and have babies and live off her considerable fame 🙂
As for the judging in competitions, well unfortunately it seems to me that many times there is more to it than just the dancing.
In those times, I normally count my blessings that my standing in my profession is not dependent upon a panel of judges where I can’t seem to figure out just what it is they’re judging on.
I agree that the stokkebroes can be boring but their individual technical skill and the fact that they work well together is quite amazing which is probably the reason behind their rankings, they aren't quite there at champions because they tend to go too much for smilign at the crowd instead of connecting the performance but their technique is flawless which is also why they tend to choose simpler routines to execute more accurate technique.
Sergey and Melia, don't get me wrong they are a great couple and Sergey wow, he's simply amazing on the dance floor. His power to lead while still being gentle to his partner is amazing and technique is quite extraordinary. I think this is what melia means by compensating for sergey's strength cause we have to face it, melia isn't as technically (maybe she cracks under pressure when they compete cause she can get really stiff at times) great as lets say joanna and yulia but her ability to connect and act is well the only way I can describe it is hair raising.
As for Yulia riccardo and max, I find that riccardo is actually the better dancer/ competitor while max is the better showman. I think max still helps them with coaching 🙂
