Happy (Late) Christmas, Everyone!

Sorry I’ve been so out of it! I can’t believe I couldn’t even wish everyone a Merry Christmas yesterday because I was so drugged up (on major decongestants, pain relievers, and Maxalt, because every little tiny cold of mine seems to lead to an all-out sinus infection, which in turn leads to a several-day-long “migraine episode” as my neurologist calls them…) Anyway, Merry late Christmas 🙂

I’m starting to feel better (though I still have hopefully the last of the “migraine clusters” lingering), and I promise to blog soon about all the wonderful Alvin Ailey I saw before I got so sick (and, well, some of it during my illness — if anyone sitting on the left side of the back orchestra at City Center on Saturday came down with anything, sorry; I love this company far far too much to miss a single performance just because I can’t hear or breathe or swallow!!), and of course Pasha’s “Rhythm of Love.”

In the meantime, here’s a write-up by someone who saw Danny Tidwell’s and Rasta Thomas’s ‘Nutz’ (thanks to Rebecca for the link), and here’s a little excerpt of Danny performing Le Corsaire on Selly’s blog. Hope everyone had a happy holiday!

  1. A merry late Christmas to you too, Tonya! Glad to hear that you are finally feeling a little better. To continue to go in to see the Ailey Company like that, even in the midst of your illness, represents a level of dedication that is unquestionably off the charts – I think the least they could do is make you an honorary member. And once the Ailey season is over, we hope you will be able to make it over to the State Theater to see our beloved City Ballet again. Best wishes for all good things (especially freedom from colds, sinus infections and migraines) in the New Year!

  2. Get well soon! Let me know when you get well and we’ll hang out!

  3. Sorry to hear about the migraines. I can relate. I have them periodically, too. I went through several prescription drugs for several years and nothing worked well. About six years ago my doctor recommended a rx dose of (Naproxen) Alleve and it worked better than anything. Now, I just buy over the counter. You might try it. Maxalt did nothing for me. You can also use it as a preventative. If I know I’m likely to have one, like once a month, I take one in the morning. It doesn’t prevent 100% but it helps. You can’t take them too much, though. They have the potential for liver damage like Tylenol. You may check w/ your doc about it.

Hope your New Year is better than Christmas.

  4. Hope you’re all better by now…and hope to see you at NYC Ballet next week.

    Happy New Year!

    Love,
    Philip (aka Oberon) and Wei

  5. Glad you’re starting to feel better. I understand about the migraine hell, that’s for sure! Tonight’s our tour date for Dancing with the Stars, hubby and I are going. I’m stoked because we have one of the few dates with Mario Lopez, I’m excited to see him dance with Karina. Bummed that we don’t get to see Edyta dance, though, she’s not at our stop. Best wishes for the new year, hope you beat the last of that evil migraine soon!

  6. Thanks so much you guys! I’m finally feeling back to my old self now. Bob, I wish Alvin Ailey would make me an honorary member!!! Yes, you guys, I’ll be at NYCB many times throughout the season, but am not quite sure when yet. Laurel, someone else told me Alleve worked well too — I’ll have to try it. Sharon, that’s so great that you’re going tonight — I can’t wait to hear how it is! Mario and Karina 😀
