The fabulous Jade Young has sent me new headshots he took of ABT soloists Jared Matthews and Yuriko Kajiya, who performed a Don Quixote pas de deux last night on So You Think You Can Dance. What did you guys think of them?

Jared & Yuriko were FABULOUS!!
They did a terrific job.
with this photo, i think jared looks like isaac stappas. even yuriko in this photo doesn’t look like the way i see her when she’s onstage!
Funny, I thought the same think, Michael. I’m so glad you liked them, Judy!
She did a fantastic controlled balance in attitude. All in all though, I don’t think classical pdd translates well to the live audience and studio stage setting. I find the contrast between the music, costumes and the contemporary set + screaming audience to be a bit jarring.
I was amazed though by D.J. Smart’s gigantor thigh muscles.
I totally agree about the fantastic attitude balance, Kathy! Yeah, the contrast between the setting and the classical pdd was jarring. I was worried classical ballet wouldn’t translate well to this audience. I’m not sure how many people knew how hard that balance was in order to be awed by it. I think something like Romeo and Juliet with the grand sweeping lifts and the story everyone knows would work better.
I think it is exciting that Jared & Yuriko were on the show. The number they did was a huge contrast to the hip hop and other numbers that were on the show, but diversity is nice. The beauty and elegance of their Don Q Pas De Deux was stunning and the judges gave them a standing ovation. I am a huge fan of both of them!!
Well Done!!
