Hello and welcome to my website! I am an author, blogger, former criminal appeals lawyer, and intermittent ballroom dancer. My first novel, Swallow, a dark comedy about a lawyer with the psychosomatic disorder Globus Hystericus, was published in December 2009 and won several awards, including gold medals in the 2010 Independent Publisher and Living Now Book Awards. It was also a finalist in the ForeWord Book of the Year Awards and the National Indie Excellence Awards. It’s been a best-seller in Amazon’s Kindle store, spending several days on the top 100 list of best-selling books and 10 weeks on the top 10 list of best-selling legal novels.
I also write a dance-focused blog, Swan Lake Samba Girl, which you can find here on this website, which has been lauded by James Wolcott of Vanity Fair and Terry Teachout of the Wall Street Journal, and has been cited in those publications as well as CNN.com and the New York Times Arts Beat Blog. I also write for the Huffington Post and for several other online publications.
Please make yourself at home and feel free to peruse an excerpt of Swallow, my photos (many of them of ballroom competitions or other dance events I attend), or Swan Lake Samba Girl (which, by the way, derives its name from the moniker my first Latin dance teacher, Tatiana, gave me because I was dancing samba very very wrongly! Hint: samba voltas should not look like bourres in ballet). While the blog is still largely about dance, I’ve expanded it to include books, art, film, legal developmentsĀ – basically anything I find interesting in New York and in the world at large.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
