JACOBY AND PRONK IN LIGHTFOOT LEON’S SOFTLY AS I LEAVE YOU

Photo by Bill Cooper of the mesmerizing Drew Jacoby and Rubinald Pronk in Lightfoot Leon’s spellbinding Softly as I Leave You, which is on both Morphoses programs (currently at City Center) and which I’ve been going on about in my last post, here, and earlier here.

And look — finally an American critic has something good to say about it!!

Says Lisa Jo Sagolla of Backstage magazine, “Lightfoot Leon’s Softly as I Leave You, a stunningly inventive duet involving a frightening coffinlike wooden box, is so fiercely emotional that its impact is universally chilling.”

I couldn’t find any YouTube clips of Jacoby and Pronk in Softly but, if you’re unfamiliar with them, here are a couple of others I found: the first a sexy little music video and the second is of them rehearsing with Mia Michaels.

Review coming soon of Program B, which includes Christopher Wheeldon’s new Rhapsody Fantaisie, which I liked.

I love the music that comes in during the last minute of the Rehearsal video - just beautiful. [I have been having hearing problems for the last seven, eight months now (my left ear gets very little), and hearing gorgeous music, listening, being able to hear it, really means *so much* more to me now...now that it is becoming apparent that I might lose it. I appreciate music, sounds, voices so much more these days. Interestingly, during a migraine (as I'm having tonight :(), I seem to be able to hear a bit better?! ... but dancing?! is pretty much impossible during one ;).] I know how you suffer, and I hope yours are few and far between!!

Thank you, as always, for your wonderful, thoughtful, inspired and inspiring posts! :) Anne W.

That picture is eerily beautiful. Btw, I was in NY this past weekend! Unfortunately I did not have that much non-dancing time otherwise I would have contacted you to hang out. I did get to meet Yulia tho :)

Thanks you guys! Sorry I'm been so lame about responding to comments lately ... and blogging. So cool you got to meet Yulia, Shim! Anne, sorry to hear about your migraine -- I hope it's better now. I get them too, sometimes for days. It is really weird how your senses are heightened during one, right?! I hope your hearing is okay too! are you going to a doctor about it? Sometimes my hearing readjusts in one ear for the duration of the migraine and I'll have decreased hearing for a while, but then it goes back to normal. I wonder if yours are related to migraines too?

My book should be out soon :) I'll post it on the blog when it is. Thank you for asking, Anne :)
